ART & DESIGN

Welcome, I am Magda. I am a graduate of the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, where I gained my diploma In 1999. After completing my education, I began to focus on interior design topics for the next 20 years, working for a Swedish company. However, my passion for sculptural forms returned, which encouraged me to explore ceramics and later porcelain, because my moto is:
"Life works in such a way that when we carry something in our heart and soul, sooner or later it will claim its place in our world. ...Once bronze, today ceramics..."
With my hand-crafted porcelain, each form I sculpt is unique. Each vessel is characterized by a different texture, shape, transparency. No two cups are the same, they can only be similar. Uniqueness, delicacy, lightness are just a few words to describe my work.

MAGDALENA KONIOR is a graduate of the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. In 1999 she defended her diploma thesis in the sculpture studio of Professor Jerzy Nowakowski. After completing her education, she focused on interior design topics for the next 20 years, working for a Swedish company. However, her passion for sculptural forms returned. This led her to explore ceramics and later porcelain, because as she always says:
"Life works in such a way that when we carry something in our heart and soul, sooner or later it will claim its place in our world. ...Once bronze, today ceramics..."
With her hand-crafted porcelain, each form she sculpts is unique. Each vessel is characterized by a different texture, shape, transparency. No two cups are the same, they can only be similar. Uniqueness, delicacy, lightness are just a few words she would like her porcelain works to be defined by. In sculpture, composition is the most important thing, accompanied by a series of human faces with feelings, emotions painted on them. Color is an important thing, but not the most important.  "I imagine that art, occupies a significant place in our everyday life. I believe that everything from a simple cup to a self-standing sculpture is of great importance in creating aesthetic value, beauty, intimacy and personal meaning in our lives. So I imagine that we surround ourselves with objects that mean something to us, objects that have a soul, a story. Objects that have real people behind them, objects that bear the marks of the human hand on them."

WORK PROCESS

STEP 1:
The whole process begins with the preparation of porcelain mass. Then I begin the molding process. Each piece, each vessel is created by hand. From the ball of clay to the thin mold, which is already almost a vessel. This stage requires great patience and attention.Molding too long can cause the object to break. Molding too short will not give the effect of thin porcelain.

STEP 2:
The next step in the creative process is to prepare the vessels for the first firing. Here, too, everything is done by hand. To start this stage the porcelain dishes must be in a dry state. Once the dishes are cleaned, the edges are aligned , the whole thing travels to the kiln . temperature of 1000C and the first firing begins, which will take about 24 hours. At the stage of preparing the dishes for the first firing is the most losses. Dishes can crack in the hand, crack the ears when drying, etc.

STEP 3:
Step three is glazing, but to start this step, the porcelain again has to go through cleaning, grinding. After cleaning it from dust, glazing can begin, of course, by hand. And again, the dishes vedrify to the kiln. This time it's a temperature of 1250C and will take about 35h. Also at this stage there are losses, for example, cracks that were not picked up earlier, dirt. which could not be seen

STEP 4:
The fourth stage is decoration with 24ct gold. This is always done in a mask. This part requires great precision. Each design is painted by hand with a natural brush. Gold firing is very difficult. Many dishes go to the furnace several times because of defects that come out on the gilded parts. Sometimes the corrections don't do anything anymore then the gold has to be burned and start this stage again.
